![]() ![]() ![]() I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach while I was in First Class. My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say. And it ' s real sad because, these days, so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France, and he said "Yes. and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day. I told him "yes, I know exactly where Normandy is, and I know what D-Day was."Īt that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland, into Arnhem. Do you know where Normandy is?"Īt this point my heart stopped. At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy. Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so,Īnd was in until sometime in 1945. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle," the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat. ![]() I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with EasyĬompany of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101stĪirborne Infantry. It’ll be must-see TV, and I can’t wait.I received the following email. I love when he has a reason to care in the regular season, and Jalen Brunson gave him a big one when they match up. I’ve said before that emotive Luka is my favorite Luka. The friendly, fun-loving guy will disappear, and A-hole Luka will be running amok. When the ball is tipped in New York, Luka will look like Bruce from Finding Nemo when he smelled blood. I’m talking Slovenian cuss words, trash-talking courtside fans, yelling at the Knicks bench (where Jalen’s father will be sitting), emphatic and-ones, demoralizing stare-downs, and maybe even a little shove or two. Combine that with the roudy New York fans and the glitz and glam of MSG, and A-hole Luka is poised to reach unseen levels. In the heat of competition, all Luka will think about is that Jalen ultimately left him. Did the Mavs drop the ball? Is Jalen a traitor? None of it matters anymore, and it definitely won’t matter to Luka when he matches up against his former backcourt mate. You can think whatever you want about the Jalen Brunson saga. When Luka heads to Madison Square Garden, he’ll be out to prove a point. Now that Jalen Brunson has officially left Dallas for the Big Apple, he’s unlocked a new Luka level whether he knows it or not. Doncic is a loveable bear who you don’t want to poke. Remember all the Devin Booker shenanigans in the 2022 Western Conference Semis? It’s safe to say Booker talking smack to Luka was a mistake. When that happens, if you’re the opponent, you have to just buckle up and take whatever punches are coming for you, because there’s nothing anyone can do to stop a motivated Luka. “A-hole Luka” comes out and there’s red in his eyes. ![]() There’s a noticeable shift in his game when he gets angry. He needed something to motivate him to go out and dominate.ĭallas Mavericks fans are starting to see that in Luka Doncic. He always found a way to feel slighted, even though he was worshipped. Michael Jordan is the best example of this. Something that gets mentioned often when discussing the best basketball players of all time is their ability to find motivation. ![]()
